The industrial sector concentrated on secondary activity registered a second consecutive quarter of contraction, according to Inegi.

The Mexican economy registered an advance of 0.2%, compared to the last quarter of last year, in real terms and with figures adjusted for seasonality, according to the timely estimate of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

This performance in the first quarter shows minimal progress from the 0.1% recorded in the previous quarter, corresponding to the period that ran from October to December 2023.

Inegi's timely estimate offers a short-term look at the evolution of the country's economic activities, 30 days after the reference quarter ended.

In the details of the information disclosed by Inegi, you can see the behavior of large groups of economic activities.

The snapshot taken by the Institute shows that the most resistant sector was that made up of tertiary activities, where services are gathered, which reached an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous quarter. While the secondaries, of the industry, observed a decrease of -0.4%, and the primaries observed a decrease of -1.1%, in the first quarter.

If this performance is confirmed in the final data that will be released on May 23, a second consecutive quarter of contraction will have been completed for the industry's secondary activities.
