The company's turnover also increased by 3% due to its operations in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

The Mexican cement company Cemex has achieved an attributable net profit of US$ 254 million in the first quarter, which represents a figure 13% higher than that registered in the same period of the previous year, as reported by the company today Thursday.

This increase in profit is the result of a positive effect on results from financial instruments and taxes, partially offset by lower operating results, higher financial expenses and a negative effect on results due to exchange fluctuation.

Cemex's net sales increased 3% year-on-year, reaching US$4,138 million. Higher prices, in local currency terms in all regions, were offset by lower consolidated volumes driven primarily by poor weather and fewer business days.

By markets, Cemex experienced a significant increase in its revenues, of 20% year-on-year, in Mexico, reaching a turnover of US$ 1,314 million. The company's turnover also increased by 3% due to its operations in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

On the contrary, sales contracted 2% in the United States compared to the first quarter of the previous year, remaining at US$ 1,234 million, and 9% in the Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia region.

The gross operating result (Ebitda) reached US$ 772 million, 5% more than in the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, the operating result was US$ 428.4 million, 3% less in year-on-year terms.

For its part, Cemex had a consolidated net debt of US$ 7,371 million at the end of March, a figure higher by almost 3% than that in March 2023 and 7% higher than that registered at the end of the year. past.

The general director of Cemex, Fernando González Olivieri, has highlighted that the first quarter of this year is surpassing the "exceptional" fiscal year of 2023. Along these lines, he has highlighted the record Ebitda figure, despite having fewer working days and with adverse weather conditions in many markets.
