Colombia's industrial production rebounds 4.1% in April, after 13 months of decline

Activities that contributed the most include the production of beverages (8.3%), the manufacture of soaps and detergents, perfumes and toilet preparations (13.1%), the manufacture of plastic products (14.4%), manufacturing of pharmaceutical products (13%), and basic iron and steel industries (16%).

In April 2024, the real manufacturing industry output rose 4.1% and manufacturing real sales by 4.3%, but employed personnel fell by 1.1%, according to the Monthly Manufacturing Survey with Territorial Approach (EMMET ) carried out by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).

Of the 39 industrial activities represented by the survey, a total of 22 registered positive variations in their real production, adding 6.4 percentage points to the total annual variation, whereas 17 subsectors posted negative variations, combined subtracting 2.3 percentage points from the total.

Among the activities that contributed the most are the production of beverages (8.3%), the manufacture of soaps and detergents, perfumes and toilet preparations (13.1%), the manufacture of plastic products (14.4%), manufacturing of pharmaceutical products (13%), and basic iron and steel industries (16%).

Between January and April, the real manufacturing industry output presented a variation of -3.5%, real sales of -3.3% and employed personnel of -1.3%.

According to DANE, between April 2023 and April 2024, the real production of the manufacturing industry presented a variation of -5.4%, real sales of -4.6% and employed personnel -1.5% .

Of the 39 industrial activities represented by the survey, a total of 34 registered negative variations in their real production, subtracting 6.4 percentage points from the total twelve-month variation, while 5 subsectors with positive variations added 0.9 percentage points to the total.

Of the 14 provinces included in the survey, 9 registered positive variations in their real production, adding 5.7 pp of the total national. The metropolitan area that contributes most positively to the annual variation of real production is Valle de Aburrá with growth of 4.8%, adding 0.7 pp to the total national (4.1%).
