Peru and Argentina ratify agreement to increase flights between both nations

After 20 years, the existing bilateral framework that limited flight capacity and frequencies is modified.

The Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported today that, with the aim of improving air connectivity, the governments of Peru and Argentina signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow for increased flights between both countries, thus promoting tourism and development. economic in the region.

This agreement modifies the existing bilateral framework, which limited flight capacity and frequencies to 28 per week for the Lima - Buenos Aires trunk route and vice versa, established in 2005.

The new document will allow the participation of new air operators, increase the offer of authorized services and make commercial air operations more flexible, with unlimited frequencies and capacities.

The virtual signing of the memorandum was carried out by the general director of Civil Aeronautics of the Peruvian MTC, Donald Castillo Gallegos, and the Secretary of Transportation of Argentina, Franco Mogetta. Both highlighted the benefits of the agreement to strengthen international connectivity, promote commercial and tourist exchange, and promote economic growth.

This agreement will also contribute to positioning the Jorge Chávez International Airport as one of the main hubs in the region and will provide investors and air operators with an updated and flexible bilateral framework to guarantee the necessary legal stability.

The signing of the memorandum will be ratified by the MTC through a ministerial resolution for its entry into force. Also present at the ceremony were the Peruvian ambassador to Argentina, Carlos Chocano Burga, and his Argentine counterpart in Peru, ambassador Samuel Ortiz Basualdo.
