President Lula's agenda in Colombia begins Wednesday morning when he will meet with President Petro at the Casa de Nariño. Bilateral agreements will be signed after the meeting.
The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio 'Lula' da Silva, will hold a meeting this week with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, in order to address issues related to trade, agriculture or investment, among others.
Brazil and Colombia maintain an important trade, with Brazil being the third largest partner of its neighbor in South America. Brazilian exports to Colombia have shown steady growth since 2003.
In 2023 bilateral trade totaled US$6.1 billion. Brazilian exports reached US$3.8 billion and imports from Colombia reached US$3.0 billion. More than 70 Brazilian companies are installed in Colombia.
The Brazilian president will attend the meeting in Bogotá as part of an official visit to the country, during which he will also participate in the Brazil-Colombia Business Forum and the inauguration of the 36th Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo), in which Brazil is the guest of honor.
"These are two countries that have a significant contingent of Afro-descendant and indigenous peoples, and their governments have given priority to strengthening these sectors in society. At the same time, there are two governments that share very similar visions about the Amazon dimension that they both have and on South American and regional integration in a broader sense," highlighted the director of the South America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, João Marcelo Galvão de Queiroz.
President Lula's agenda in the neighboring country begins Wednesday morning, when he will meet with President Petro at the Casa de Nariño, headquarters of the Colombian government. Bilateral agreements will be signed after the meeting, followed by a statement to the press and a lunch.
Later, President Lula will participate in a Business Forum promoted by ApexBrasil and the trade promotion agency ProColombia. The event is expected to bring together around 300 Brazilian and Colombian businessmen from diverse sectors.
Before President Lula's agenda in Bogotá, there will be a parliamentary mission organized by the Secretariat of Institutional Relations of the Presidency of the Republic to establishing contacts between Brazilian and Colombian congressmen on issues of interest to both countries.
In addition, a seminar on family farming will be held, sharing experiences from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture.
