This initiative is part of a subregional project within the Action Plan for Regional Transformation.
The Government of Gustavo Petro will allocate approximately US$ 9.6 million to the fishing, piangua and aquaculture sectors in the Pacific and Nariño. The initiative will include the participation of leaders and representatives of community associations and councils.
This initiative is part of a subregional project within the Action Plan for Regional Transformation, intended to benefit the communities of El Charco, La Tola, Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé, Olaya Herrera, Mosquera and Francisco Pizarro.
Jose Kénedy Caicedo, member of ASOCOETNAR, mentioned the inclusion of his community in the new Colombian government, highlighting the importance of reflecting the vision and worldview of his people.
In a co-creation workshop, representatives of community associations and councils identified initiatives and evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of each sector. This process will facilitate the effective structuring of the project, ensuring that the needs and visions of the communities are considered.
The total investment of US$ 9.6 million will be financed with contributions from government and territorial entities: the Territory Renewal Agency (ART) will contribute US$ 3.3 million; the Rural Development Agency (ADR), US$ 4.8 million; the Government of Nariño, US$ 1.4 million. In addition, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will participate in the structuring of the project under the ART-FAO 866 agreement as an implementing partner.
The project also incorporated a gender and differential approach. Darly Mosquera, from the Renacer de la Piangua Foundation in Mosquera, a leader in piangua fishing and harvesting, actively participated. Mosquera stated: “This project seeks to improve the dignity and living conditions of Pianguera women.”
