Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Caputo has added José Luis Daza to his team as Secretary of Economic Policy, a position in which he is expected to play a key role in negotiations between Argentina and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Daza will replace Joaquín Cottani, who left the Ministry at the end of June. A Chilean national, Daza has an extensive career in the private sector, and has previously worked alongside Caputo at Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan.
Daza has also served as the representative of the Central Bank of Chile in Asia, based in Tokyo. Politically linked to the far-right José Antonio Kast, had he won the 2021 Chilean presidential elections, he would have been one of the candidates in the running to run for the country's Minister of Economy.
Caputo stressed that Daza is "an excellent person" and one of the best and most respected economists in Latin America, known worldwide "for his successful career in the private sector, for his enormous capacity, and for his proven experience in economic and financial matters."
"It is an honour to work together again as we did for so many years," the minister said on Tuesday on his 'X' account (formerly Twitter).
