Last year more than one and a half million people passed through the Carrasco International Airport.
The flow of passengers that passed through the Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay increased by 44.4% in 2023 compared to the previous year, registering the visit of 1,763,352 people. Although this meant an increase compared to the traffic registered in 2023, it has still not been possible to exceed the level prior to the covid-19 pandemic, when in 2019 1,987,389 people passed through the airport.
The data comes from the yearbook of the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia), through which its director, Leonardo Blengini, pointed out that although the pandemic that began in 2020 “left a lot of damage in the sector,” the airline industry Uruguay “seems vigorous and full of challenges.”
Of the total number of people who transited through the Carrasco Airport in 2023, 875,730 of them were passengers who entered and 887,622 were people who left the country through that air terminal.
When viewing the passengers who entered the country according to each airline, it was found that Copa, Aerolíneas and Tam (Latam Airlines Brasil) were the three that registered the largest number of people with a total of 155,620, 108,268 and 105,390, respectively.
On the contrary, Paranair, Avianca and LAN Perú (Peruvian subsidiary of the Chilean airline Lan Airlines) were the three airlines with the lowest number of passengers entering Uruguay with 24,774, 31,448 and 33,996 people, respectively.
Meanwhile, the passengers who left the country did so mostly by Copa, Aerolíneas and Gol with a total of 163,089, 112,102 and 100,545 people, respectively. On the contrary, Paranair, Avianca and LAN Perú were the three airlines with the lowest number of passengers leaving, with a total of 25,166, 32,053 and 33,447, respectively.
Volume of seats offered and occupancy factor
On the other hand, last year, the volume of seats offered was a total of 1,094,703 when people entered Uruguay and 1,090,773 when they left the country.
In general terms, this volume of seats offered meant a growth of 40% compared to the previous year. The airline that offered the most seats in 2023 was Copa (170,212), followed by TAM (143,074) and Aerolíneas (141,410).
Meanwhile, the flights carried out had an increase of more than 34% in 2023 compared to last year; while the load factor rose 3.78% more.

The Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) presented preliminary passenger traffic data at the region's airports for the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
The data reflected that the growth in passenger volume in the period was 5.5% and according to the preliminary figures analyzed by ACI-LAC, Uruguay was the country that presented, in percentage terms, the best results compared to the same period of the year. previous, with a growth of 28.6%.
For its part, Brazil continued to be the main market in Latin America and the Caribbean with a total of 52 million passengers, followed by Mexico, which presented a growth of 1.3% and a passenger volume of more than 45 million people. .
