Grupo Abra, the business holding company made up of the airlines Gol (from Brazil) and Avianca (from Colombia), has confirmed the start of talks with the Brazilian airline Azul to explore opportunities such as a merger agreement.
The Brazilian airline Gol has been in charge of clarifying this matter once it has been requested by the Superintendency of Listing and Supervision of Issuers of B3, the company in charge of managing the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
Although it was initially considered that Azul would be willing to buy Gol, in recent weeks the possibility of a merger between both companies has arisen to create a company in which Abra would also be a shareholder. .
According to Gol, a possible agreement between Grupo Abra and Azul would not be binding for the company. In the last week, it is worth remembering that both airlines have signed a codeshare agreement, in order to connect their flight networks, which is interpreted as a first step towards the integration of both airlines.
For its part, Azul has clarified that, although it is in "independent conversations" with Abra, at the moment it has not signed any agreement for a possible business combination with Gol.
In this context, it is also worth remembering that Gol is covered by Chapter 11 of the United States bankruptcy law, given the serious financial debt situation it is going through, and about which it has spoken out this week, exposing its refinancing plans. and capital increase.
