Brazil continues to be consolidated as the main destination for the dairy products that Uruguay exports, based on a report updated by the National Milk Institute of the Uruguayan country (Inale).
Considering the last 12 months (moving year), the main destinations were Brazil (49%) and Algeria (16%), with smaller shares of Mexico, Russia, Chile and other supplied destinations.
Taking into account the four items considered, Brazil was the main destination for three of them: whole milk powder (55% of the total shipped), skimmed milk powder (75%) and cheeses (29%); Saudi Arabia was the destination that demanded the most butter (with 20%).
BILLING DROPPED
The turnover generated by Uruguayan exports of dairy products decreased 17% in the initial quarter of 2024, compared to that achieved in the same period last year.
The data, adverse for the sector that in 2023 ranked third in the ranking of main exported products behind beef and cellulose, is sourced from a new report prepared by Inale technicians, accessed by El Observador.
Considering a set of four items, in January-March exports amounted to US$ 186.7 million, based on data from the National Customs Directorate (DNA).
Considering the accumulated income in 2024 in relation to that section of last year, the following data was recorded:
- In whole milk powder there was a decrease of 17% (totaling US$ 117.1 million).
- In skimmed milk powder there was a decrease of 1% (US$ 12 million).
- In cheese the drop was 6% (US$ 30.2 million).
- In butter it fell 27% (total US$ 13.5 million).
If the reading is made based on the volume placed, in January-March 47,688 tons were exported and the following records were observed compared to the same period in 2023:
- 8% drop in whole milk powder (34,818 tons were shipped).
- 20% increase in skimmed milk powder (3,954 tons).
- 2% drop in the case of cheese (6,223 tons).
- A 23% decrease in butter (2,693 tons).
