Former president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, will remain in preventive detention until August 2025

As is known, the former president is accused of the alleged crime of rebellion and faces a request for 34 years in prison.

The Judiciary extended for 14 months the preventive detention filed against the former president of Peru, Pedro Castillo Terrones, accused of the crime of rebellion and others.

The extended period of preventive detention responds to the fact that the process against the former president is in the intermediate stage, said said power of the State.

It specifies that the measure will be computed from June 7, 2024 to August 6, 2025.

This decision comes despite requests from the former president's defense not to extend the deadline.

The former president remains detained in the Barbadillo prison. Let us remember that there are two parallel judicial processes against him.

The Attorney General's Office asked the Judiciary to extend the preventive detention of former President Pedro Castillo for the coup d'état case.
