Dominican Republic will develop strategy to attract semiconductor industry

The objective of this presidential provision is to lay the foundations to turn the country into a reliable, safe and competitive reference.

The president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, has declared the promotion, innovation and development of the semiconductor industry in the country a high national priority.

The president's decision is contained in Decree 324-24, of June 13, 2024, which highlights that "semiconductors (commonly known as 'microchips' or 'integrated circuits') are essential for the functioning of most of technological devices and electronic systems, as well as for technological innovation and the development of new applications in the areas of intelligent vehicles, artificial intelligence, the internet of things, automation, among others.

The aforementioned decree also provides for the preparation by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs of the National Strategy for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry (Enfis), whose primary purpose is to position the Dominican Republic as a strategic destination. competitive, reliable and secure for the global semiconductor industry.

The objective of this presidential provision is to lay the foundations to turn the country into a reliable, safe and competitive reference for the development of the semiconductor industry in all its sectors: research and development, design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, packaging and logistics. , among others.
