Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, maintained that not only the economic growth figure is important, but also the inflation figure, which in May was 0%, after having had up to 10% at some point.
The Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, José Arista, indicated today Monday that the national gross domestic product (GDP) could grow more than 3.2% this year.
“The second half is going well, we believe that the fundamentals that maintain this 5.3% growth seen in April will be maintained throughout the year. We conservatively still maintain our growth projection of 3.2% for this year, but I am almost sure that this figure will be much better,” he said on TV Perú.
“In the first quarter (of 2024) we have started a little recovering from the problems we had last year, climatic problems, road problems and others that complicated production,” he added.
José Arista maintained that not only the economic growth figure is important, but also the inflation figure, which in May was 0%, after having had up to 10% at some point.
International reserves
“In addition, we have US$ 76,000 million in international reserves, more than US$ 13,000 million of surplus in this first quarter in our trade balance. The truth is that we are a macroeconomically solid country and that is what rating agencies and investors see when they set foot in this country,” he stated.
Peru is a country, not only because of my management but also because of my predecessors, that has been well managed macroeconomically for 20, 25, 30 years, but in the microeconomy we are lacking more work, more attention to solve small problems, he added. .
The minister considered that, sometimes, ideology is mixed a little with what should be done, but in the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) they are focused on what really generates well-being for the population.
“The best way to fight poverty is to promote economic growth and the way to generate it is with investment, for which we need security, institutional security, social security, asset security, that is, these insecurities that we see every day in the red pages of newspapers, that is what we have to try to reduce,” he said.
