The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Peru has risen almost three tenths in June compared to the previous month, reaching 2.29% year-on-year compared to the drop to 2% that occurred in May, as disclosed by this Monday the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) of Peru.
Thus, inflation has registered an increase again in June, after several months with a downward trend, although it continues to be below previous levels, without even reaching the low 2.4% year-on-year that occurred in April.
In this context, the central bank of Peru decided on June 13 to maintain interest rates at 5.75%, with the estimate that year-on-year inflation will remain around the center of the target range in the projection horizon. The organization will hold a next meeting on July 11, with the June data on the table.
In monthly terms, Peru's inflation has risen to 0.12%, compared to the 0.09% contraction recorded in May. In the accumulated index, inflation is 1.57%.
The monthly result was mainly influenced by the increase observed in the consumption divisions of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.11%), Restaurants and Hotels (0.20%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.27%) and Transportation (0.18%).
Also, price increases were recorded in the divisions of Furniture, Household Items and Ordinary Home Conservation (0.11%), Recreation and Culture (0.11%), Education (0.06%), Accommodation, Water, Electricity , gas and Other Fuels (0.03%), Clothing and Footwear (0.08%), Health (0.05%) and Communications (0.01%).
