The Minister of Economy of the Andean country, José Arista, says that the port terminal benefits Peru and Latin America.

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Peru (MEF), José Arista, said today that the launch of the port of Chancay will allow the entry of Chinese merchandise for 500 million consumers in Latin America.

"The port of Chancay turns out to be the gateway, the passport, the place through which Chinese merchandise can enter, not only for 33 million Peruvians, but for nearly 500 million consumers that exist in Latin America," he indicated in TV Peru .

José Arista said that he was surprised by the extreme good attention that the Chinese government gave to the visit of President Dina Boluarte, despite the fact that China's interest in having Peru as a strategic partner is known.

“President Dina Boluarte was responding to an invitation made to her by the Chinese government, and the head of state also invited President Xi Jinping to come and inaugurate the port of Chancay, and he gladly said yes,” he said. .

“China sees Peru as an important strategic partner due to its geographical location, because it is in the center of Latin America. Furthermore, because they know that coming from the Panama side offers many risks, due to drought or instability in the water supply for passage through the canal, considering that the ships are increasingly larger, and the saving of 10 days of transportation from Chancay to Shanghai, which is a tremendous comparative advantage that the port of Chancay has,” he added.

The minister also highlighted that the port of Chancay will benefit exports and international trade of Latin American countries.

“Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Colombia and, above all, Brazil will benefit. Despite the Interoceanic Port, there is very little commercial relationship with Brazil, so this port will allow Brazilian exports of grains, meat, soybeans and corn that go to Asia, will have to use the port of Chancay," he said.
