The Peruvian Minister of Economy, José Arista, highlighted the mining potential of the south of his country.
The Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, José Arista, indicated today that, after the restart of activities in the Tía María copper project (Arequipa), the company Southern Perú plans to invest close to US$ 10,000 million in a refinery in Moquegua, which which reflects the potential of mining in the south of the country to trigger other investments.
"The truth is that the south looks very good and I commented yesterday in the Council of Ministers that I had spoken with the owners of Tía María and they said that, if they carried out this project, they planned to locate a refinery in Moquegua, in Ilo possibly, with a total investment close to US$ 10,000 million,” he said on TV Perú .
“The start of Tía María has also sparked the interest of owners of other mines to trigger construction and exploitation as soon as possible, especially in copper-oriented mines,” he added.
IMPRESSIVE FUTURE OF THE SOUTH
José Arista highlighted that another Chinese company (Terminal Portuario Jinzhao Perú) was awarded the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the “New Port Terminal of San Juan de Marcona”, a port located in the province of Nazca (Ica) that will require an investment of US$ 405 million.
“San Juan de Marcona has an iron producing mining company above, which is Pampa de Pongo (Arequipa). So they are also getting their act together and beginning the studies for the exploitation of the mine and the rapid construction of the port of San Juan de Marcona, which is more or less US$400 million,” he indicated.
"In the south we also have the interest of the ports of Ilo and Matarani to expand, because there we have other projects such as Zafranal (Arequipa), San Gabriel (Moquegua) or Los Calatos (Moquegua), mines that will enter production very soon and There is no port through which to take the products,” he added.
“The truth is that with all these resources the south has room to grow exponentially. The future that is being presented to him is impressive,” he said.
MICHIQUILLAY, GALENO AND THE FARM
The minister commented that, during the trip of the Peruvian government delegation to China, President Dina Boluarte told the directors of the Las Bambas mining company (Apurímac) to also activate the other project they have in Peru: Galeno (Cajamarca). .
“They not only have Las Bambas, but also in Cajamarca, in the La Encañada area, the Galeno mine. So the president told them to go there to work and start producing Galeno. But in that area we have other mines, such as La Granja,” he said.
"Likewise, Michiquillay, who is in Cajamarca, I met with them two days ago and they tell me that they also have every interest in starting operations as quickly as possible, within two or three years, for which they are thinking of transporting all their production through a mineral pipeline that takes them to the coast,” he added.
