The airline has called this decision "outside" its control, and in order to provide the greatest possible protection to its passengers, the airline has defined commercial flexibilities for changes and returns without any additional cost.
Latam Airlines has temporarily suspended its operation between Lima and Caracas from this Wednesday until August 31, once the Venezuelan authorities have decided to temporarily suspend all flights with Peru during this period.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Yvan Gil, announced on Tuesday the breaking of diplomatic relations with Peru, after the Government of Dina Boluarte did not recognize the official results of the Venezuelan presidential elections, which declared Nicolás Maduro as the winner, and recognized the opposition candidate, Edmundo González, as president-elect.
"The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has decided to break diplomatic relations with the Republic of Peru, on the basis of Article 45 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. We are forced to make this decision after the reckless statements of the Peruvian chancellor who ignore the will of the Venezuelan people and our Constitution," he indicated through his profile on the social network X.
The day before, the Peruvian Foreign Minister, Javier González-Olaechea, stressed in an interview that Peru does not recognize Maduro's victory and that "the permanence of the regime is not admissible", while defending that the main opposition candidate , Edmundo González, "is the legitimate elected president" of the South American nation.
Faced with this situation, which Latam Airlines has called "extraneous" to its will, and in order to provide the greatest possible protection to its passengers, the airline has defined commercial flexibilities for changes and returns without any additional cost.
"Latam Airlines Perú regrets the inconvenience that this situation, beyond its control, may cause to passengers and will continue to constantly monitor the situation to provide pertinent and timely information to customers," the company said.
