The problems that the Colombian economy has been going through in recent years have been especially felt in the sale of vehicles. An equation of high interest rates, high inflation and lower consumption has impacted the demand for high-value goods, thus affecting the results of the automotive sector.
Although the situation remains complex, the most recent figures on new vehicle sales provide a more favorable outlook for the long-awaited reactivation. In July 2024, 16,494 new vehicles were sold in Colombia, according to the Vehicle Registration Report prepared by ANDI and Fenalco.
In July 2024, the automotive sector sold 16,494 new vehicles, presenting an increase of 26% compared to the same month in 2023. However, the current figures are far from the results of July 2022.
According to ANDI and Fenalco, when comparing the seventh month of 2022 and 2024, there is a 29% drop in car sales.
To date, the only segments that present a positive balance are the utility and commercial passenger segments, which register increases in sales of 30% and 25%, respectively, compared to July 2023.
The cities in which new vehicle registrations grew the most in July are: Cota with 224%, Bucaramanga with 102%, Ibagué with 107%, Madrid with 70% and Armenia with 60% compared to July 2023 .
Between January and July 2024, the five brands with the highest number of registrations were Toyota, with 15% market share; Renault, with 12.3%; Kia, with 11.6% market share; Chevrolet with a 10.7% share and Mazda, with 8.8% market share
According to the report, these five brands represent 58.5% of the total vehicles registered so far in 2024.
The best-selling lines in July 2024 were the Toyota Corolla Cross, with 5.6% of the total registered vehicles, the Mazda Cx-30 model with 3.6%, the Renault Duster with 3.2%, the Kia Picanto reaching 3.1% and the Foton Bj with a share of 2.5%.
These five lines represented 18% of the total enrolled in the seventh month of the year.
The ANDI and Fenalco report reveals a historical fact: July 2024 was the best month in sales for electric vehicles. And, in the seventh month of the year, the sale of electric vehicles grew by 267% compared to the same period in 2023.
For its part, the sale of hybrid vehicles grew by 50% compared to July 2023.
