This new system will apply to all market segments, with the exception of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which will maintain the previously established implementation date.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) informed, through the Notice to Shipping Companies, the implementation of the new Long-Term Quota Allocation (LoTSA) methodology, which will come into effect on October 1, 2024.

This new system will apply to all market segments, with the exception of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which will maintain the previously established implementation date.

The LoTSA methodology, designed specifically for Neopanamax vessels as part of the Transit Reservation System, aims to increase security and flexibility in the transit of vessels through the Panama Canal.

The system will allow customers to obtain multiple transit slot reservations in a single transaction, offering greater convenience and adaptability to their operational needs.

However, following the announcement of this new methodology, several clients in the containership segment requested an additional period to properly evaluate the initiative, and in response to these requests, the ACP has decided to postpone the implementation date for these segments, thus allowing for greater participation and ensuring the success of LoTSA.

This new approach represents a significant step in the modernization of the Panama Canal's services, while reinforcing its commitment to efficiency and customer satisfaction in an increasingly demanding commercial environment.
