The main objective is to position Panama as a world-class cruise base port, taking advantage of modern terminals and the possibility of making complete transits through the Panama Canal.

Senior executives from Royal Caribbean Group met with officials from the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) to strengthen Panama's position as a world-class cruise destination, highlighting the country's progress and infrastructure to become a strategic home port for the cruise industry.

For AMP Administrator Luis Roquebert, the main objective is to position Panama as a world-class cruise base port, taking advantage of modern terminals and the possibility of making complete transits through the Panama Canal.

"We have port infrastructure on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, equipped to meet the growing range of itineraries offered by cruise companies, which allows us to meet the needs of travellers," said the AMP Administrator.

He added that the cruise season in Panama involves a complex network of actors that interact directly or indirectly, thus strengthening the economy and positioning the country as a key player in the cruise industry at a regional and international level.

In this regard, he reiterated the confidence placed by Royal Caribbean in choosing Panama as its base port for operations in the Caribbean during the 2025-2026 cruise season.

This decision will allow passengers from various nations to come to Panama for tourism and to board cruises, while locals will also have the option of boarding without leaving the country.

For his part, César Menéndez, Tourism Destination Manager, Royal Caribbean Group, owner of the cruise lines Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises, reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Panama, highlighting the importance of the country as a central hub for its operations in Latin America.
