The requirement for this document will come into effect as of January 8, 2025.

The United Kingdom is introducing an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) program as part of the transformation and digitalization of its borders. Peruvians intending to travel to the United Kingdom must apply for one to enter the territory. Since when?

The British Embassy announced today that “all persons with Peruvian passports, and those from other countries who do not currently require a visa for short-stay visits to the United Kingdom, must present an Electronic Travel Authorization.”

The requirement for this document will come into effect on January 8, 2025, according to the notice published on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

What is an ETA?

An ETA is an electronic travel authorization that is required instead of a visa.

This permit is electronically linked to your passport and allows you entry into the United Kingdom.

All travellers, including children, entering or transiting through the UK will need to apply for this authorisation.

Who needs an ETA?

It is required by those visiting the UK for a maximum of 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business or study.

Those visiting the UK for up to 3 months on an Innovative Worker visa.

Those transiting through a UK airport, even if they are not going through UK border control.

Which countries require this document?

The United Kingdom requires several countries to process this document before their citizens enter its territory.

As of November 15, 2023, Qatari citizens have joined the list of countries requiring an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

Since February 22 of this year, citizens of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates must also apply for one.

For citizens of Spain and all countries that do not require an entry visa, including those of the European Union, it will be possible to apply for one from March 5, 2025, in order to be able to travel with said authorization from April 2, 2025.

And in America?

The United Kingdom requires an ETA to enter its territory for those from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

How do I apply for an ETA?

You can apply via the UK ETA app or on the government website GOV.UK. Each traveller must apply for their own e-ETA, including children and infants, so you can apply on behalf of other people. You will usually hear whether your application has been successful within 3 working days.

Please note that you must submit your application 3 days before your trip and that some applications may require additional time if additional information needs to be verified.
