Workers' unions have asked for a reindustrialisation plan for the plant to be established as a condition for evaluating their proposals, which would involve maintaining activity and preserving jobs and the industrial fabric of the city of Valladolid.
The Mexican bakery Bimbo has insisted on its intention to close its plant in Valladolid (Spain) and has announced that it will put forward proposals such as transfers of workers at the next meetings it will hold with the company committee, which will be held on October 8 and 9, since it is "willing to negotiate", although the workers' representatives have requested a reindustrialization plan.
This was stated by the president of the company committee, Félix Fernández, who explained that CCOO and UGT have asked the company to establish a reindustrialisation plan for the plant as a condition for evaluating their proposals, which involves maintaining the activity, even if production is different from the current one, so that jobs and the industrial fabric of the city are maintained.
The aforementioned unions made this request during the last meeting they held this Wednesday at the Castile and Leon Labour Relations Service (SERLA) with the company, which ended without an agreement.
The representatives of the workers at the factory in Valladolid have stressed the need for the company's proposals to be specified in the upcoming meetings and for Bimbo to specify to what extent it is prepared to negotiate, "without the social party accepting the reasons given for the closure of the plant."
Following this meeting, Fernández explained, another one was held at the same location as on Tuesday, in which the company put on the table that it would be "willing to propose other alternatives or measures", such as transfers or compensation, "without specifying what these would be".
But in order to enter into these negotiations, Fernández warned, the company committee must know specifically what these matters are that they are willing to negotiate.
However, Fernández has stressed that the committee's approach is "unanimous", so first of all there will have to be a proposal for reindustrialisation of the plant, with a continuation of activity.
ORGANIZATIONAL CAUSES
On the other hand, Fernández recalled that at the meeting of the committee with the director of operations of the Bimbo candy sector on October 1, the business side only explained the organizational and productive reasons for the plant.
The company committee has also encouraged all citizens to join the demonstration they have called for this Saturday, October 5, at 11:00 a.m. in Plaza Colón in Valladolid to support the plant workers.
