According to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), of this total, 300,000 exporting and importing SMEs will benefit directly, while the rest will have access to training in management, technology and benefits of commercial activation.
One million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could benefit from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), according to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL).
This year, the event will be chaired by Peru and will take place in November, said the president of the Small Business Association (SMEs) of the CCL, Rodolfo Ojeda.
"Of this total, 300,000 exporting and importing SMEs will benefit directly, while the rest will have access to training in management, technology and benefits of commercial activation," said the union leader.
He stressed that SMEs are a driving force of growth for the Asia Pacific bloc, as they represent 97% of all companies and employ more than half of the workforce in the countries that make up APEC, a bloc that represents 61% of the global economy.
APEC, considered an economic power, consists of three pillars: trade liberalization, business facilitation and technical economic cooperation.
For this reason, he stressed that APEC will give Peru greater visibility to the world, where Peruvian SMEs will have access to new markets, technology transfer, financing and training, improving their management system, as well as investment promotion.
“This is intended to accelerate the modernization of SMEs by increasing their capacity for innovation and strengthening their capabilities so that they have greater participation in commercial activities and e-commerce,” Ojeda stressed.
It is worth mentioning that 150 meetings have been held at this event with representatives of the 21 APEC economies, the most relevant being China, the United States, Japan, Canada and South Korea.
In 2023, Peruvian exports to the economic bloc totaled US$ 44,089 million, while imports amounted to US$ 31,459 million, according to figures from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
