Joaquín María de Arístegui Laborde was appointed as Madrid's new ambassador to Buenos Aires, thus returning bilateral relations to normal.

Relations between Spain and Argentina are returning to normal, following the strong friction that occurred between Argentine President Javier Milei and the Spanish government.

The Pedro Sánchez administration has appointed Joaquín María de Arístegui Laborde, until now ambassador to Colombia, as the new ambassador to Buenos Aires.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid, Spain is thus resuming normal diplomatic relations with Argentina after the withdrawal of the ambassador last May due to Milei's insults to Sánchez.

Following this decision, the Spanish Government has stressed that Spain and Argentina are "brother nations, united by deep human and social ties."

"Our common language and culture and the important economic, commercial and investment exchanges must always act as a guide in relations" between Spain and Argentina, said a joint statement.

The note adds that the relationship between the two executives "must be equal to the intensity of the ties that unite our peoples and societies" and, in this sense, they commit to strengthening relations "so that they reach the highest level of trust and mutual respect in political and institutional terms" that the two peoples deserve.
