The Government reported that in December of this year the valuation amount for the 5G technology that is about to be assigned would be available.
Peru's Deputy Minister of Communications, Carla Sosa, announced that the 5G band would be awarded in the first half of next year and that this will contribute to closing digital gaps across the country.
"It will not only allow us to move forward in closing infrastructure gaps with 4G but also in the implementation of 5G so that industries and citizens can have higher speed internet to improve productive areas, improve access to health services, medicine and healthcare," he said on TvPerú.
He mentioned that in December of this year the valuation amount for the 5G technology that is about to be assigned would be available.
"The goal for 2025 is to continue making progress in closing gaps in our country," said the vice minister.
On August 14, the legislative decree was approved that allows the allocation of the 5G technology frequency for mobile telephony and higher (within the framework of the legislative powers delegated by Congress to the Executive).
Technology
He mentioned that last year the 4G band was put out to tender for 640 million dollars and that these resources were transferred so that 3,825 localities in remote areas of the country could access telecommunications technologies. “This commitment has already been achieved with more than 3,200 localities.”
Sosa explained that 5G is basically designed for the development of the Internet of Things. “It will help us above all with the improvement of production processes, the automation of some production chains, automated vehicles, among others, which will generate new efficiencies in companies,” he said.
He mentioned that in the case of citizens, 5G technology is more intended for geolocation, the use of remote controls for equipment in the home, among others. “These types of uses help us improve the quality of life of families.”
However, he mentioned that the focus of attention in the development of 4G and 5G coverage is to advance technologically and recognize the importance of moving forward in closing the gap for Peruvians who are not connected.
In APEC
In the context of APEC, Sosa commented that Peru has a lot of ties with Vietnam, Singapore, Chile, among others. “Being in APEC opens up a space for dialogue and the exchange of good practices in policies.”
For example, the coverage fee mechanism applied in Peru is viewed as a good practice in this bloc.
“This year, population centres in 20 regions of the country have access to 4G coverage. Every year, a list of population centres that do not have access to this technology is established and the idea is that the operating companies install 4G technology in a list of population centres that we publish each year,” he said.
