Air connectivity boosted the country's economy with a 15.9% increase in passenger transport and a 10.5% increase in cargo during October.
The Colombian air sector continues to expand, with growth in both passenger transport and cargo and mail transportation. Between January and October 2024, the country reached historic figures that confirm its recovery and regional leadership.
According to the latest report from the Civil Aeronautics, from January to October 2024, 46.5 million passengers traveled by air, which represents an increase of 15.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
The entity stressed that this growth not only underlines the post-pandemic recovery of the sector, but also the strengthening of national and international connectivity.
In annual terms, from November 2023 to October 2024, the country transported 55.85 million passengers, with an increase of 15.44% compared to the previous year. This is equivalent to 6.39 million additional passengers, “a figure that reflects the consolidation of Colombia as a regional benchmark in air connectivity,” Aerocivil said.
Freight transport: sustained growth
The cargo and mail segment also shows encouraging figures. During the last 12 months, 933,079 tons were moved, with an increase of 8.4% compared to the previous period.
Between January and October 2024, airlines operating in the country transported 775,515 tons, an increase of 9% (63,972 additional tons) compared to the same period in 2023.
In October 2024, freight transport experienced a notable increase of 10.5%, with 8,092 tons more than the tenth month of last year.
According to Aerocivil, the growth in passengers and cargo not only strengthens Colombia's position in the international air market, but also has a direct impact on the country's economy.
The expansion of routes and the movement of goods have improved the competitiveness of key sectors such as tourism, agriculture and industry.
