The aforementioned accession protocol will be implemented from 15 December.

The Government of Peru has ordered the implementation of the Protocol of Accession of the United Kingdom (Great Britain and Northern Ireland) to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as of December 15, 2024.

Through a Supreme Decree, published today in the official newspaper El Peruano , the execution of the Bilateral Letter with the United Kingdom on the application of article 18.38 regarding the Grace Period was also arranged.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) will inform the relevant entities of the provisions that are relevant for the proper implementation of the Protocol of Accession of the United Kingdom to the CPTPP and the Bilateral Letter with the United Kingdom on the application of Article 18.38 regarding the Grace Period.

The full texts of both documents are published on the Mincetur website on Peru's Trade Agreements.

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership is a trade agreement made up of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam and Peru.

The recitals of the regulation recall that on March 8, 2018, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership was signed in Santiago, Chile, which was implemented in Peru as of September 19, 2021.

Furthermore, the Protocol of Accession of the United Kingdom to the CPTPP was signed simultaneously in Auckland (New Zealand) and Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei Darussalam) on 16 July 2023, as well as other related instruments, including the Bilateral Letter with the United Kingdom on the implementation of Article 18.38 regarding the Grace Period.

The Protocol on the Accession of the United Kingdom to the CPTPP must enter into force 60 days after the expiry of the 15-month period from the date of its signature, and will therefore begin to be implemented on 15 December 2024.
