The Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Daniel Maurate, recalled that in the last quarter of this year the increase in the Minimum Vital Remuneration (RMV) was going to take place .

Peru's Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Daniel Maurate, said that next week the increase in the minimum wage (RMV) would be announced, in line with what was stated by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte.

"Let us remember that the president announced that the RMV would increase in the last quarter of this year," he told RPP .

"The entire procedure has been followed by the National Labor Council (CNT), in fact, President Boluarte met with employers and workers' representatives at the Government Palace to discuss this issue. Therefore, we are ready to make the announcement probably next week," he said.

Maurate said that the planned increase will be applied responsibly.

“We have to be very responsible in this matter. We know perfectly well that this increase must take into account the issue of inflation, because workers have not received an increase in their salaries for a long time, but we must also consider that, if we do not apply the measure responsibly, it may mainly affect small business owners who are struggling to formalize their businesses,” he said.

The head of the MTPE asserted that small and medium-sized businesses, in general, are paying wages above the RMV. “However, micro-businesses are the ones that pay the RMV and many of them have not entered the formal sector and would like to do so, so the increase must be fair,” he commented.

Disinformation

The Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion said that there is a lack of information in the area of small and micro businesses regarding the labor costs they must incur.

"They believe that they are paying a common labor cost of close to 60% when they are entitled to a labor cost of 5.6%. We must inform all micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses that they should not pay the cost of the common labor regime. They have a special regime, in any area in which they work," Maurate stressed.

In this regard, he said that his sector will promote a campaign to adequately inform micro-entrepreneurs on this issue, so that they can incorporate workers into the payroll without fear of labor costs.
