The economist and Yamandú Orsi's main advisor on this matter will replace Azucena Arbeleche, who has been the head of this portfolio under the presidency of Luis Lacalle for the last five years, starting in March.
Uruguayan President-elect Yamandú Orsi has officially announced the names of the ministers who will make up his future government, including Gabriel Oddone as the new Minister of Economy and Finance.
Orsi had already announced at the end of September, in the framework of the presidential election campaign, that Oddone would accompany him as Minister of Economy if he won the polls in October (or in November, as finally occurred, having to hold a second round).
The economist and Yamandú Orsi's main advisor on this matter will replace Azucena Arbeleche, who has been Minister of Economy and Finance under the presidency of Luis Lacalle for the last five years, starting in March.
Among other positions, Oddone has served as a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Latin American Development Program in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Looking ahead to his future administration, the new Minister of Economy has defended the need to make the retirement age in Uruguay more flexible, with a system that does not act by sectors of activity but rather by virtue of the working circumstances of the workers. Although, during the campaign he advocated maintaining the retirement age at 65 years.
In addition to Oddone, in the economic branch of the Government, Orsi has appointed Fernanda Cardona as Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining; Juan Castill as Minister of Labor and Social Security; Alfredo Fratti as Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries; Lucía Etcheverry to head the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and Pablo Menoni to direct the Ministry of Tourism.
