Peru: imports totaled nearly US$ 4.9 billion in November 2024

According to Adex, the amount represented an increase of 19.2% compared to what was recorded in the same period in 2023.

Peruvian imports totaled US$4.894.8 billion in November 2024, which represented an increase of 19.2% compared to the same period in 2023, the Association of Exporters (Adex) reported today.

The Global Economics and Business Research Center of the Exporters Association (CIEN-Adex) explained that this is the seventh month that has closed in the blue (along with January, April, May, July, August and October).

According to the 'Import Report', this growth was recorded despite the year-on-year decrease in the average prices of some of the main imported products, including Diesel B5 and Diesel 2, with falls of -22.8% and -22.6%, respectively.

Import freight

On the other hand, it indicated an increase in import freight rates for products such as soybean oil (11.5%) and yellow hard corn (3.4%). In general terms, in November 2024, registered freight rates represented 6.9% of the total imported value (CIF), increasing by 47.4% compared to the same month in 2023.

Raw materials and intermediate products (2.3845 billion dollars) led imports with an increase of 22.2% and accumulating 48.7% of the total. Raw materials and intermediate products for industry (1.4606 billion dollars) and fuels and lubricants (741.7 million) stood out.

Capital goods

Next came capital goods and construction materials (1,410.3 million dollars), with capital goods for industry (888.5 million dollars) being the most prominent, followed by transport equipment (379.8 million dollars), construction materials (125.7 million dollars) and capital goods for agriculture (16.4 million dollars).

Third place in the ranking was occupied by consumer goods, with a value of 1,098.9 million dollars. Among non-durable consumer goods (651.5 million dollars), food products and pharmaceuticals stood out, while among durable consumer goods (447.4 million dollars), vehicles stood out.

By sector

He pointed out that in November 2024, all 12 sectors presented positive numbers. Due to its dynamism, the mining sector was the most outstanding, with a growth of 366.1%, followed by non-metallic mining (56.4%), textiles (37.6%), wood (32.4%), clothing (30.2%), among others.

In first place were imports of metalworking (1.616 billion dollars) with 33% share, followed by chemicals (914 million dollars), hydrocarbons (728.6 million dollars), agriculture (573.1 million dollars), iron and steel (249.7 million dollars) and textiles (128.4 million dollars).

In addition, non-metallic mining products (92 million dollars), mining (73.4 million dollars), clothing (68.4 million dollars), wood (40.1 million dollars) and fishing (27.2 million dollars) were imported.

Countries

In the month analyzed, China was the most important supplier. Thus, Peru imported from that country for an amount of 1,502.4 million dollars, with a 30.7% share and a growth of 34.4% compared to November 2023.

The second place was occupied by the United States (US$818.8 million), increasing its shipments to Peru by 3.8% and accumulating 16.7% of the total. Regarding the European continent, Russia (US$26.7 million) stood out for its dynamism, growing 1,295.3%, mainly due to the import of ammonium nitrate.

Peruvian imports between January and November 2024 totaled 50,008.9 million dollars, a figure that indicates a growth of 4.7% compared to the same period in 2023.
