The figures provided by Procolombia allow us to estimate that the increase was at least 23%.
Air transport continues to gain importance in Colombia. A recent report by Anato, supported by figures from Procolombia, reports that 2024 closed with a 23% increase in national air frequencies, which implies 6,649 weekly frequencies.
In total, there are six airlines in Colombia that cover 239 routes connecting 59 cities and territories in the coffee-growing country. In 2023, there were five airlines operating 204 routes to 51 cities.
“These data show the growth in connectivity in the country and the interest shown by airlines in strengthening their offering and/or opening routes to new destinations, which in turn means that tourism is not concentrated in traditional destinations, but rather opens up opportunities for departments with a tourist vocation,” explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
The regions with the greatest importance continue to be the Andean and Caribbean regions. For Anato, one of the great challenges for 2025 will be for Colombians and international travelers to discover the wealth of tourism that exists in the country, driving the growth of other destinations. To this end, he adds, it is important to continue strengthening air connectivity.
In 2024, the regions that recorded the greatest growth in air connectivity were the Orinoquía, with 59%; the Pacific, with 42%; and the Amazon, with 34%.
“Among the strategies we have been working on, together with our Travel Agencies, is the design of more tourist packages that allow travelers to enjoy unique experiences in destinations that are already well-established abroad, but also in places that are beginning to gain prominence within the tourist offer. We are making this possible with the presence of our entrepreneurs at international tourism fairs, which are spaces that have given us the opportunity to show the potential of the entire country and attract the attention of new markets,” concluded the union leader.
