Following the acquisition of the telephone operator by Sur Holdings, WOM's management will undergo changes.

This Thursday it was announced that Ramiro Lafarga, CEO of WOM, will leave his position after leading, for three years, the fourth largest company in the country in the telecommunications business.

Lafarga's departure is not due to a resignation or dismissal, but rather to a restructuring of the company's management following the acquisition by the investment firm Sur Holdings.

It should be noted that for much of last year, WOM was in the process of corporate reorganization, as its financial situation threatened bankruptcy. This time allowed it to sit down and renegotiate its debts with its creditors (including the Colombian government, which represents 40% of its financial obligations) in order to stay afloat.

What defined WOM's future in the country was the purchase made by the aforementioned investors who, starting in January, announced that they will bet on WOM to continue growing in the country, a company that today has close to 8 million clients, with more than 5,100 antennas deployed and investments that have exceeded US$1 billion.

Lafarga will cease to be CEO and will become an advisor to WOM, as the company values the more than 30 years of experience that this professional has in the global telecommunications sector.

“I am proud to have led a growth and disruption project in the telecommunications market in Colombia. I would like to thank all the clients who have trusted WOM, our suppliers for their support and, above all, our partners and collaborators for their dedication and passion. I wish them the greatest success in the years to come.”

Who will be the new CEO of WOM? The answer is, no one in particular. What is coming for the recomposition of the company's management is that at the head will be a board of directors (made up of investors and the current management team), which will be in charge of making decisions in the company.

“WOM Colombia expresses its deep gratitude to Ramiro Lafarga for his commitment and effort to achieve these outstanding results in a highly competitive market,” the operator reported, which reiterated its commitment to continue being a key player in this sector, strengthening competitiveness and its position as a “unique, innovative and user-focused” alternative.
