"The expectation is that these initiatives will boost job creation and expand the participation of the Brazilian industry in the naval and offshore sectors," said Magda Chambriard, president of Petrobras.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will announce two initiatives to boost the naval industry on Monday at an event that will launch the second bidding process for the Petrobras fleet renewal and expansion program and sign memorandums of understanding for the reuse of Petrobras platforms in the demobilization phase.

The president will be accompanied by the Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, the President of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, the President of Transpetro, Sérgio Bacci, and several ministers.

Generating long-term demand for the naval and offshore industry is one of the Government's priorities and a commitment of Petrobras. Boosting the sector generates a virtuous circle of new investments and opportunities, in addition to strengthening the productive and industrial chain.

"The expectation is that these initiatives will boost job creation and expand the participation of the Brazilian industry in the naval and offshore sectors," said Magda Chambriard, president of Petrobras.

This contract will triple the capacity of Transpetro, an oil logistics company, to transport LPG and derivatives and will allow it to load ammonia. The expansion of the fleet of gas carriers, from six to 14 vessels, takes into account the increase in natural gas production in the country and aims to meet demand on the Brazilian coast and in river navigation.

The tender consists of two lots, which cannot be awarded by the same shipyard or consortium. The tender allows the participation of all shipyards that meet the technical and economic criteria of the call for tenders.

One of the lots up for tender includes five vessels, three with a capacity of 7,000 cubic metres and two with a capacity of 14,000 cubic metres. These gas carriers will be pressurised, intended for transporting LPG and derivatives.

The other lot includes the acquisition of three semi-refrigerated vessels with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters. As a differential, these vessels will also be able to transport ammonia, a product that is not currently transported by Transpetro. The entry of these new vessels allows the company to expand its portfolio of services.

Interested companies have 90 days to submit proposals. According to the schedule, the first ship should be launched within 30 months of the contract being signed. The rest should be delivered successively every six months. The future gas carriers will be up to 20% more fuel efficient, provide a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and be able to operate in electrified ports.
