The bilateral agreement establishes that both countries are committed to exchanging knowledge on the sustainability and decarbonisation of ports.

Brazil and Portugal have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation between the two countries in the port sector and in the development of infrastructure and terminal operations.

The cooperation agreement establishes that the two countries undertake to exchange knowledge on the sustainability and decarbonisation of ports and the development of green corridors between the ports of both countries, in addition to sharing knowledge and common projects on the digitalisation of ports and port information systems.

The two states are also expected to agree to exchange knowledge on port-city relations and environmental protection in ports, share technology and experience in terminal area and operations, and exchange information on port engineering and construction, and exchange human resources, including port experts, and provide training programs are also in the document.

The MoU also encourages private sector participation in the cooperation process. A working group should also be created to coordinate the activities envisaged in the document.

For Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, the measures agreed in the memorandum will allow the sector to expand and develop in both countries.

"In international trade, those who adopt decarbonisation measures and reduce greenhouse gas emissions will be the protagonists. This partnership with Portugal puts our countries on this path, adjusting not only our infrastructure but also our entire navigation on the path of sustainability," he said.
