This measure, dictated by President Boric, will apply from the Arica region to the Los Lagos region.

Chilean Interior Minister Carolina Tohá confirmed that a state of emergency and a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. have been declared following the massive power outage affecting a large part of the country.

This measure, dictated by the President of the Republic, will apply from the Arica region to the Los Lagos region.

It should be noted that the executive director of Coordinador Eléctrico, Ernesto Huber, reported that there is no estimated time for the restoration of the electricity supply.

According to the minister, the Jedena (Chief of National Defense) have been appointed to take charge of this task.

“The process required for this declaration has begun and is in its final phase to make it effective immediately. In preparation for this possibility, which was an alternative since this power outage situation arose, preparations have been made to deploy the forces that will be installed in the different regions, in order to guarantee the safety of people in the event that the power outage extends into the night,” explained the minister.

He added that "our first concern, and that is the reason for this statement, is to ensure the safety of people, so that at night no one takes advantage of this power cut to cause damage, to commit crimes, to cause injury to citizens."

“We want to point out that, as the Chilean government, we consider what Chileans are facing today to be unacceptable. It is not possible that due to a failure of this type, due to the hours that have passed, the functioning of our lives, the movement of people, is affected in this way (…),” the Secretary of State specified.

However, Tohá said that they will give themselves time, until 8:30 p.m., “if there were to be any change in the situation, we would lift the state of emergency. If the power starts to come back on in the next few hours, we will lift the state of emergency in the various affected regions.”
