Railway projects involve a total investment of more than US$ 10.6 billion.

Peru's Minister of Economy and Finance, José Salardi, has set the goal of awarding the contracts for lines 3 and 4 of the Lima and Callao Metro next year, which involve an investment of more than 10.6 billion dollars.

“Lines 3 and 4 have the particularity that they already have an approved pre-investment study, so we start from that base, with which both projects go directly into structuring,” he said.

“Our goal is to be able to award them next year and to do so we will work with all the experience we have had with the PMOs (Project Management Offices). An important synergy will be created under the umbrella of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to make it viable,” he added.

José Salardi considered that the projects for lines 3 and 4 of the Lima and Callao Metro must be carried out using the PPP modality, taking into account that the fiscal issue is not compromised and can be viable in the long term.

"These are two urgent projects for the city. The costs generated today by the traffic issue we have tend to grow and worsen, which is why important and disruptive decisions are required," he said.

Line 3, with an investment of 6.924 billion dollars, will be 100% underground, will be 34.8 kilometers long and will cover 13 districts of Lima, benefiting more than 5 million people. With an estimated travel time of 56 minutes, this project will connect Comas, Los Olivos, San Martín de Porres, Miraflores and Surquillo, among other districts. It is estimated that, in its first year of operation, it will generate 1.772 billion dollars in social benefits.

For its part, Line 4, with an investment of 3.739 billion dollars, will also be 100% underground, will have a length of 23.6 km, to which 8 km of the Faucett-Gambetta Branch will be added. This work will benefit more than 2 million people in 13 districts of Lima and Callao, connecting jurisdictions such as Bellavista, San Isidro, La Molina and Santa Anita. With a travel time of 44 minutes, it is estimated that it will generate 442 million dollars in social benefits in its first year of operation.
