After a 48-hour conclave of the cabinet of the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, in Paipa, Boyacá, in which they talked about the successes and failures of the Government, the president announced that they are preparing a package of measures to achieve "full economic reactivation ”. Petro arrived on Sunday afternoon to hear the conclusions of the meeting.
In the same announcement, Petro assured that the measures “will be presented to the Congress of the Republic in the coming days.” Although it is not known exactly what this announced package includes, the Government has a pension reform that will have to go through two debates in the Seventh Commission and the plenary session of the House of Representatives, around which there are already certain differences, because although the Senate approved it With a threshold of 2.3 minimum wages to contribute to Colpensiones, the president has already returned to his campaign proposal of four minimum wages.
Among the conclusions of the conclave there are two mentions of the change in the economy. In point three it is indicated that “the importance of moving from an extractive economy to a productive one was reaffirmed” and in point five it is established that the “Ministry of Finance highlighted the relevance of promoting the strategic sectors of the economy and the need to “restructure the Colombian productive model, largely dependent on oil bonanzas.”
Another of the projects that the Government would soon file is the new health reform that was born from an agreement with some EPS in the last week. At this weekend's meeting, the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, insisted that reforms will continue to be presented, even from scratch, referring to the initiative on the health system that would have only 47 articles.
The meeting between members of the Government this weekend was led by the vice president, Francia Márquez, and the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency (Dapre), Laura Sarabia, before the president's arrival in Paipa. According to Sandra Ortiz, the presidential advisor for the regions, the team was advancing “in each of the sectoral areas to give a report” to the president.
One of the key points of the meeting was the Executive's budget execution, which is among the lowest. In point four of the conclave's conclusions, it was stated that "it was requested to periodically report and upload budget execution" and it was recalled that "the ministries and directorates are executing the assigned resources in an effective, strategic and planned manner."
Along the same lines, the members of the conclave discussed the budget for 2025 and “the dates of the goals were set and the legacies that the national government plans to leave in 2026 were presented.” Emphasis was also placed on “the need to strengthen communication around the progress and achievements” of the Executive, as well as “the commitment to work as a team and advance the social change stated in the program.”
