The tycoon Carlos Slim's telco attributes the loss of its financial profitability to the regulatory policy that since 2014 eliminated money inflows, such as long-distance charging, and that forced the telephone company to allow third-party companies to use its network as an input for market their own triple and quadruple play packages.

Telefonos de México (Telmex) reported a net loss of US$ 543.78 million for the entire year 2023, a deepening of 48.11% compared to the net loss of US$ 393.44 million registered by that company throughout 2022.

Telmex's net loss for 2023 in national currency was 9,300.58 million pesos and 934.60 million pesos for the fourth quarter of that year, when in the same period of 2022 the company had recorded a profit of 2 million of pesos, the first that Telmex then recorded in a dozen quarters.

The company attributes the loss of its financial profitability to the regulatory policy that, since 2014, eliminated money inflows for Telmex such as long-distance charging and that forced the telephone company to allow third-party companies to use its network as an input to market their own triple and quadruple play packages.

Telmex reported a total debt of 47,885 million pesos for all of 2023, about US$ 2,858 million and which registered an increase of 25.5% compared to 2022.

At the end of 2023, the company said it had faced liabilities of 34,127 million pesos, mainly related to pensions and payments for seniority.

Its income stood at 25,756 million pesos in the last quarter of 2023, 8% below the record for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Telmex announced an investment of 7,803 million pesos in the last part of the year for the growth and maintenance of its telecommunications network, equivalent to US$ 456.28 million.

The company closed the year 2023 with 21.71 million accesses to its network; 10.48 million broadband accesses and 10.68 million fixed voice accesses, so the distance between one business and the other is 193,000 accesses, meaning that in the first quarter of 2024 this company could bring in more money and customers through your Internet business.
