This issue is expected to be addressed at the meeting held by the presidents of Bolivia and Brazil, Luis Arce and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, respectively, in Santa Cruz, in July.
The negotiations for a new contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas between Bolivia and Brazil will not be limited only to the export of energy, since it is necessary to define the conditions under which this project will be carried out. This implies that Petrobras would have to invest in exploration and exploitation to help increase production.
“As was done at the time, when Petrobras signed the gas purchase and sale contract, at the end of the 90s (of the last century), joint work was developed and in this way Petrobras came to invest in Bolivia” , stated the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy of the highland country, Franklin Molina.
“We consider that this approach is the appropriate way to proceed to advance the exploratory frontier,” he indicated in a press release.
This issue is expected to be addressed at the meeting held by the presidents of Bolivia and Brazil, Luis Arce and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, respectively, in the city of Santa Cruz, in July.
Authorities from the governments of both countries will also participate in the meeting, in which various topics will be discussed, including the issue of hydrocarbons.
MEETINGS
In this regard, Molina reported that, in meetings held in previous months with the Ministers of Hydrocarbons and Energy of the neighboring country, interest was expressed in expanding the gas marketing contract with Brazil.
The idea that Petrobras participate in the development of exploration and exploitation projects is part of the plan developed by Yacimientos Petrolófilos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) in the search for new gas reservoirs.
Currently, YPFB works on gas production in traditional areas, such as the South Subandean area, which was characterized by its important energy contribution to the country.
"However, in the current administration of the Government we are progressing towards new exploratory and reserved areas in favor of YPFB, (such as in the north of the country)," he stated.
