In parallel, the controversy over what could be an increase of up to an extra 10% in electricity bills, due to the reliquidation of Distribution Value Added (VAD) rates, has hardened the discussion.

The executive director of the Generadoras de Chile trade association, Camilo Charme, maintained that “the forgiveness of interest on the debt (maintained by the State) is not a practical way.”

This, after the request of parliamentarians from the Tariff Stabilization Board who appealed for a “forgiveness.”

In parallel, the controversy over what could be an increase of up to 10% extra in electricity bills, due to the reliquidation of Distribution Value Added (VAD) rates, has hardened the discussion; and from the technical committee they asked the Ministry of Energy to present all the background information.

INTERESTS

In a new session of the technical table for the electricity rate accounts, parliamentarians raised the possibility of canceling part, or all, of the interest on the debt that the State has with the Generators.

Camilo Charme, executive director of Generadoras de Chile, maintained that condonation is not “a practical way” and that this was previously stipulated by the Ministry of Finance.

In parallel, a new flank of controversy has opened due to what could be an increase of up to 10% extra in electricity bills, associated with the reliquidation of the VAD that accumulates a debt of 600 million extra dollars.

Juan Meriches, executive director of Empresas Eléctricas Chile, explained the difference between the variation in the distribution rate that has already come into force, and the outstanding debt, ensuring that “it is a bit of fiction” to talk about increases so early.

There is another project that the Executive announced that will seek to reduce the total cost of energy by 7%, allowing Small Generation Means to enter the market.

Former representatives of the companies assured that the project is unconstitutional and that it means the expropriation of 20% of the current contracts.

Matías Cox, executive director of the Association of Small and Medium Generators, rejected this assertion, but shared the argument that there is a legal conflict that must be discussed once the project is launched.

On this point, the large companies present at the session assured that they will wait to know the proposal in detail before issuing an opinion.
