The company will operate in the Andean country with three Airbus A320neos, operating eight routes connecting Bogotá, Cartagena, Medellín, Pereira, Cali, and Santa Marta.
Chile's low-cost airline JetSmart started offering domestic flights in Colombia today. The Andean nation is the fourth Latin American market where JetSmart operates, after Chile, Peru and Argentina.
The company will operate in Colombia with three Airbus A320neo and will market eight routes, connecting Bogotá, Cartagena, Medellín, Pereira, Cali, and Santa Marta.
The different routes will begin to operate over the next few days and, according to the airline. The number of weekly flights could reach 113, with an offer of 42,036 seats. The company expects to have transported more than 2 million passengers after the first year of operations in Colombian skies.
During the inauguration of JetSmart's activity in the country, Colombian government officials highlighted the presence of five airlines offering domestic flights.
These new operations, according to the Vice Minister of Tourism, Arthur Bravo, make it possible to promote greater competition and possible fare reductions, "something essential for the sustainable growth of tourism."
Colombia is one of the largest air travel markets in Latin America, behind Brazil and Mexico. With the bankruptcy of local low-cost airlines Ultra Air and Viva Air last year, JetSmart offers an affordable alternative to Colombian passengers and has great potential to cover the domestic market's demands.
