In the last hours, at the La Moneda Palace, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, led the ceremony commemorating the 85 years of the Production Promotion Corporation (Corfo).

At the event, the president made a relevant announcement: the creation of Startup Campus, a technological entrepreneurship hub “that will contribute to the strengthening of the ecosystem and the development of applied research, technologies and innovation in the productive sectors to promote economic diversification and the competitiveness of the country.”

The physical space, promoted by Corfo and Fundación Chile - a public and private collaboration - will have the objective of “contributing to articulating the offer of support for startups , their connection with the industry and catalyzing their success.”

With Startup Campus, the Government said, Chile will position itself “as a Latin American benchmark in terms of supporting dynamic and high-impact ventures.”

This will be Startup Campus

Startup Campus will have a strategic location with connectivity in the center of Santiago, Metropolitan region.

It will be located on the Santa Lucía Campus (Avda Santa Rosa #76), of Inmobiliaria Territoria, and will occupy a total space of 3,850 m2.

Its infrastructure, indicated by Corfo, will be made up of five types of facilities: cowork , auditorium, private offices, biological sciences laboratory, hardware , materials and electronics prototyping laboratory.

In its first five years of execution, Startup Campus is projected to “support 200 startups with high growth potential, helping to increase their staff, technological advancement, sales and export.”

It was explained that the profile will be ventures that use science and technology as a driver of innovation and development "to generate solutions to major challenges in the country and the world, contributing to sustainable and fair development."

For this project, the investment amount will be around US$ 11 million, resources that come from the R&D support clauses of the lithium contracts that Corfo maintains with Albemarle.

“These resources will be complemented with private financing based on a sustainability model, through income from space rentals, memberships, corporate services and/or sponsorships, among others,” said Corfo.

Once established, Startup Campus will collaborate closely with Start-Up Chile, other Corfo management and other public and private organizations.

“It is expected that the impact of this new space on the ecosystem will be even greater considering the installation of capabilities that can be replicated and amplified,” Corfo noted.
