They confirm agreement and end to the strike in Puerto Coronel
From the Presidential Delegation of Bío Bío in Concepción, it was said that it is most likely that tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, operations at this important port terminal, one of the most relevant in the region, will resume.
In this regard, the Minister of Transportation confirmed an agreement between the Puerto Coronel company and its different unions of temporary workers who had an eight-week mobilization.
“Both the company and the workers have been able to make some of their positions more flexible to finally be able to have our port operational,” said the head of the portfolio.
Regarding what is to come: "our dialogue table is maintained to address the different elements that remain to be resolved," he added, along with, that "the work will be carried out without discrimination against contracted workers, temporary workers."
More reactions to the agreement
The presidential delegate of Bío Bío, Daniela Dresdner, thanked the participation of all the actors who achieved the agreement to end the paralysis at Puerto Coronel.
“Deputies, senators, the mayor of Colonel, of course, were involved, and all of them contributed with a grain of sand to reach this result,” he stated.
For this reason, Guillermo Jaque, Puerto Coronel union leader, clarified that “this agreement does respond to needs that we had at the time and that we had been talking about.”
He added that "the workers are willing to return to operating as soon as possible, I believe that in coordination with the company the terminal will reopen tomorrow."
Finally, Patricio Román, manager of Puerto Coronel, said that the return to operations will be progressive and not during the week, but “as soon as possible. Obviously we have to agree.”
“In the end, it is not about arriving and starting a port after practically two months of being stopped. But, that will be during this week.”
