Chilean president starts business trip to Germany: "It is a very important partner for Chile"

“We have a very intense agenda in regards to investments, lithium, green hydrogen, human rights and culture, so I am very happy to be received by the chancellor and the main authorities of Germany. We are going to tell you more details as we make progress,” said President Boric.

President Gabriel Boric arrived in Germany this Monday to begin his eight-day tour to Europe, aimed at searching for investment and innovation projects in lithium, and promoting human rights and educational models for the future.

The President will also visit Sweden, Switzerland and France as part of his European tour.

Upon arrival to Germany, the Chilean head of state stated that he was very happy to be in the country, which he considers "is a very important partner for Chile."

When asked if he will participate in the summit in Jordan, the President said that Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren “is representing me.”

During his time in Germany, Boric will participate in activities in Munich and Berlin, where he will be received by the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and the Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The President will also lead the inauguration of the “Chile-Germany: Strategic Partners for Global Challenges” Economic Forum, focused on clean energy, lithium and technologies. Then, he will participate in the Innovation Summit Chile-Germany and will visit the European Southern Observatory (ESO), in order to strengthen ties between Chile and Germany in terms of astronomical research and innovation.

EUROPE TOUR

On June 13 and 14, the President will hold an official visit to Sweden with an agenda that includes a meeting with the Prime Minister, Ulf Krissterson, and with King Carl XVI Gustaf. Among other activities scheduled in Stockholm, Boric will visit the facilities of Fryshuset, the largest Youth Crime Prevention Center in the world, to learn about its intervention model and facilities.

Then, the head of state will travel to the city of Lucerne, in Switzerland, to participate in the Peace Summit for Ukraine, a high-level conference that will bring together leaders and representatives from countries around the world. The international meeting will take place between June 15 and 16.

At the end of his European tour, Boric will arrive in France to meet with his counterpart Emmanuel Macron, in addition to heading the United Nations SDG4 High-Level Mechanism, whose theme is the Contribution of Education to the Future Summit to be held in September.
