Chile's CPI changed 0.2% in November, while bread experienced price increases

According to the INE, on the other hand, gasoline and local air transport prices fell.

This Friday, the National Institute of Statistics of Chile (INE) reported that in November, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a monthly variation of 0.2%, accumulating 4.7% in the year and 4.2% over twelve months with respect to the index's linked series.

Among the basic products that make up the basket, the most notable were increases in the price of bread and international air transport, as well as the purchase of food outside the home (in cafes or restaurants).

On the other hand, gasoline and local air transport prices fell.

CPI for November 2024

The INE reported that last month, ten of the thirteen divisions that make up the CPI basket contributed positively to the monthly variation of the index, and three presented negative impacts.

Among the divisions that showed price increases, the most notable were home equipment and maintenance (1.6%) with 0.093 percentage points (pp.) and information and communication (0.8%) with 0.050pp.

The remaining divisions that had a positive influence together contributed 0.203pp.

Among the divisions that recorded monthly price declines, food and non-alcoholic beverages stood out (-0.3%), with an impact of -0.058pp.

PRODUCTS

- International air transport: In November, it showed a monthly increase of 25.3%, contributing 0.135pp. to the variation of the general indicator. It accumulated 0.5% in the eleventh month of the year.

- Food purchased in restaurants, cafes and similar: It recorded a monthly increase of 0.6%, with an incidence of 0.031pp., and a variation of 7.2% so far this year.

- Outpatient procedures and interventions: Recorded a monthly increase of 3.5%, with 0.028pp., accumulating 1.5% so far in 2024.

- Bread: It recorded a growth of 1.3%, with 0.027pp., accumulating 5.3% in 2024.

- Gasoline: Reported a monthly decrease of 2.3%, with an impact of -0.075pp., registering a variation of -3.9% so far this year.

-Domestic air transport: It registered a monthly decrease of 14.0%, with -0.033pp., accumulating -2.5% so far in 2024.

Rising salaries

Yesterday, the INE reported the latest Nominal Remuneration Indices (IR) and Labor Costs (ICL) - corresponding to the month of October -: it indicated that they registered increases in twelve months of 8.2% and 8.4%, respectively.

By economic sector, trade, manufacturing and construction recorded the highest annual positive impacts in both indicators.

The Real Salary Index - which measures the evolution of salaries adjusted by the monthly variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) - grew by 3.3% in twelve months, accumulating a variation of 1.8% so far this year.
