Peru consolidates its global presence in the fishing market with constantly growing shipments.
The Peruvian Ministry of Production (Produce) reported that, during the period from January to September 2024, Peruvian exports of fishery products reached a value of US$ 3,185.7 million, which represents a significant growth of 29.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Produce head Sergio González explained that this increase is mainly due to the greater demand for fishmeal, fish oil, canned products and resources such as mackerel, horse mackerel, anchovy and tuna, which are more popular abroad.
"With this result, Peru reaffirms its position as one of the main generators of foreign currency in the global fishing market, thanks to its traditional and non-traditional hydrobiological products that boost the national economy," he said.
Sergio González indicated that the most important markets for Peruvian fishery products include China, the United States, Spain, Chile, Japan and South Korea. These destinations together accounted for US$2.34 billion, equivalent to 73.4% of the total exported.
"In this way, the country continues to strengthen its role as a leader in the export of hydrobiological products, reaffirming its commitment to the sustainability and quality of its products to meet the demands of the global market," he said.
