The Economic Commission of the Peruvian Congress seeks to approve an initiative before the upcoming inauguration of the Chancay port and the APEC Summit.
The president of the Economic Commission of the Congress of Peru, Ilich López, said today that the bill for the creation of the Special Tax and Customs Regime for Private Special Economic Zones, proposes benefits to attract investments before the upcoming inauguration of the port of Chancay.
“Private special economic zones are geographic spaces within the country that offer benefits and favorable conditions to attract investment. For example, some tax incentives are granted,” he said on Andina Canal Online .
Ilich López said that the National Parliament's Economic Commission has already approved a report on the bill for the creation of the Special Tax and Customs Regime for Private Special Economic Zones and hopes that it can be debated this Thursday in the Plenary Session of the Peruvian Parliament.
“A ruling was passed to grant a benefit for 25 years, which will be 15% income tax, although some say it should be 0%. So, the Economic Commission has taken that into account and has set a parameter: the first five years will be 0% income tax payment and from the sixth year until 25 years it will be progressively raised until reaching 15%,” he explained.
“With this we seek to attract investments. But that is basically the beginning because what comes next is that Peru becomes industrialized and this promotion law will cease to be in force over time,” he added.
The parliamentarian said that a Spokespersons' Meeting will be held today where it will be decided whether to include this bill in the agenda of the Plenary of Congress, with the aim of debating and approving it this week.
"I think it is important that it be seen this week because it will be a clear and positive message prior to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Week organized by Peru (November 10-16)," he emphasized.
“In addition, with the inauguration of the port of Chancay (November 14) and the largest economies in the world in the country, we will have a great opportunity to tell them, from the Congress of the Republic, that we are prepared to be competitive in the world,” he added.
