Renfe, a Spanish railway company, has shown its interest to the Chilean and Colombian authorities to explore new collaboration opportunities that allow the supply of second-hand Spanish trains for circulation on the tracks of both Latin American countries.

The supply of second-hand rolling stock in Chile is justified by the similarity of that country's railway infrastructure and those of conventional gauge in Spain, which represents an opportunity for Renfe.
In the meeting held with the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile, Juan Carlos Muñoz, Santano valued the Spanish Cercanías and High Speed railway network as a "reference throughout the world."
In addition, he has conveyed the interest of Spanish companies in continuing to be present in Chile due to their long history and involvement, particularly due to the new railway and metropolitan projects in Chile.
The Secretary of State has held bilateral meetings with the different leaders and authorities participating in the Regional Forum of the International Transport Forum (ITF), in which he has been able to share with them issues of common interest in the field of infrastructure and transport.
In her meeting with the Vice Minister of Infrastructure of Colombia, María Constanza García Alicastro, she referred to the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in May 2023 on infrastructure and transport as a framework for agreements in the areas of competence of both ministries. , especially the railway sector.
It has also conveyed the possibility of having second-hand railway rolling stock from Spain.
In his meeting with the Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, Marius Skuodis, he highlighted the Rail Baltica project and the modernization of Lithuanian railways (electrification and traffic control) and underlined the commitment of Spanish companies to this project.
The Lithuanian president has highlighted the potential of a Vilnius-Madrid airline, in which the Spanish airport would serve as a hub for connectivity with Latin America.
Likewise, he shared with the Secretary General of the International Association for Public Transport (UITP), Mohamed Mezghani, the Ministry's intention to develop a single transport ticket.
