EDP reported this Friday on the inauguration of its first wind farm in Chile, in Punta de Talca. Located in the commune of Ovalle, in the Coquimbo Region, it is already operational.
In South America, where the company has assets worth more than US$ 7,572 million, this operation becomes the second largest of the group. The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy of Chile, Diego Pardow Lorenzo, as well as representatives of the electricity company.
The park is made up of 14 wind turbines, it has an installed capacity of 83 MWp, an annual production that is equivalent to the consumption of 95,000 homes and will avoid the emission of 140,000 tons of CO2 each year.
With a total investment of almost US$ 120 million, the construction of this park, which is the first project of this type for the energy company in Chile, generated more than 350 direct jobs, promoting the local economy.
EDP South America CEO Joao Marques da Cruz highlighted the importance of the project, noting that the inauguration "represents a crucial step in our growth strategy in South America."
The company arrived in Chile in 2021 and currently manages a portfolio of projects totaling approximately 1,000 MWp, including wind, solar and energy storage developments. In 2023, a public land tender was awarded that will allow it to develop more than 300 MWp in renewable energy projects in the Taltal commune.
