“We must make the most of the oil and gas we have,” said the country's Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho.
Hydrocarbons have a horizon of 20 years in the world and will bring economic benefits to the country, said the Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru, Rómulo Mucho.
"Hydrocarbons will not end tomorrow or the next day and will have at least a 20-year horizon, so we must make the most of the oil and gas we have," he indicated.
“We must develop more exploration and that will bring a lot of economic benefit to Peru,” he noted on Tv Perú.
In this context, the minister called for Peruvianism, since political noise does not allow any plan to be executed.
The king of metals
The minister highlighted that Latin America has almost 75% of the world's lithium and almost half of the planet's copper (45%).
"Copper is the king of metals and we are the second largest copper producing country in the world, after Chile," said the minister.
“We have dormant deposits, but today Peru is an important destination and is recovering its attractiveness for investments,” he stated.
He stated that a few days ago a ton of copper reached US$11,000 and it is expected that it could reach US$15,000.
In that sense, he estimated that the "sleeping" copper deposits in the ground could reach US$2.2 billion.
Peru is a very attractive country
“Peru is a very attractive country, as it has a new discovery of lithium and copper production continues to increase,” he said.
“By developing four or five copper projects we could reach (a production of) four million tons and we would be on the heels of Chile,” he predicted.
Finally, the minister pointed out that copper consumption will multiply by two, three or five and there will be a copper deficit of almost five million tons until 2030.
